HELP! How do I make a Mad Hat? Got any tips?

YES, we've got a whole workshop! Come to our free, all-ages Mad Hat Slams for hours of Millinery Madness. Veteran parade artists will be on hand to get you started with basic materials, tools, and assorted accoutrements. And feel free to bring your own bling, colorful accents, and up-cyclable accessories. Drop in, or let us know you are coming!

Sunday, May 3, 12-5pm / Spark of Hudson Co-Lab (502 Union St.)

I want to be in the Parade, but I’m not so crafty. Can I join even if I don’t make something?
YES, join the Readymade Brigade! We have random collection of Mad Hats (and a few giant puppets, masks, etc.) longing to be worn. We need volunteers like YOU to bring them to life in the Parade. Just fill out our online volunteer form, and we’ll be in touch. Readymade Mad Hatters should check in one hour before step-off to find their perfect match. No experience is necessary – one will be provided!

Can I make music in the Parade?

Is your sound too Stockhausen for Suburbia?
Your polkas too primal for Prime Time?
Your oratoria won’t play in Preoria?
Now’s your chance to dust off your glockenspiel, tune up your theremin, and drag out that old yaybahar (look it up…) Homemade instruments, found sounds, and ad hoc harmonics are all welcome here. Come fill the fertile rests between Brasskill and Djam Gong Gamelan, the erstwhile ensembles that keep us dancing.
If you’d like to add your joyful noise to the mix, please let us know.
Do you need help organizing the parade?
We always need a few extra hands to line up the parade, hand out some off-the-rack Readymades, and cheerfully help people keep safe in procession. If herding cats and/or Mad Hats is your thing, please contact us via our online volunteer form to join our cadre of Mad Hat Marshals.
